This interactive and everlasting LuniSolar Guide is a practical calendar & spiritual tool (similar to the ancient Islamic Astrolabe); it is used to calculate and honor sacred Jewish traditions and events that recur on weekly, monthly, yearly and multi-year cycles. This LuniSolar Guide features the major annual Jewish holy days observed in Diasporic Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrahi traditions in the Northern Hemisphere (outside of Israel/Palestine). Jewish temporality is ancient and infinite.

Jewish communities relied on the LuniSolar calendar for centuries before the Catholic church imposed the Gregorian calendar 500 years ago as the universal time-tracking system. Jewish rituals are inseparable from the rhythms of the moon, the sun, and the seasons. Anyone has the power to decipher Jewish time through observation: look up at the night sky to see the current moon phase, experience ecological shifts as daily sunlight hours ebb & flow across the span of 1 year (few in winter, abundant in summer). This LuniSolar Guide is an invitation to recalibrate our spiritual and communal relationship to time and to our interconnected existence; to redirect away from violent othering, instant consumption, and scarcity mindsets, and instead towards the elemental forces that unify and nourish humanity.

This is not a romantic task in 5787 (2026). With the climate crisis intensifying over the last 100+ years, weather patterns are more chaotic and therefore less reliable for Jewish timekeeping in our immediate future. How do we make sense of Sukkot - the autumnal harvest festival - when there is abundant flooding or extreme drought, yielding no food in the wild or on farms? What does Jewish adaptation look like when the core identity of sacred Jewish time (the many environmental components that give each holy day/festival distinct meaning) is unrecognizable?

This LuniSolar Guide is not complete. You are encouraged to personalize this calendar as you desire: by adding recurring holy days that you want to honor, remember, and return to (ie. multicultural family traditions, loved ones’ birthdays and yahrzeits, the season when the first peaches of summer are ripe; modifications for Jews living in the Southern Hemisphere, etc). There are so many unique cultural and regional sacred Judeo-days that are not illuminated on this LuniSolar Guide that you are invited to add.
